It would make more sense to me to use a number for the version (for example a 21 for Blender 2021). This, in my opinion, will make it easier for both developers and users to identify which version of blender they are using.
If we were to go with an “.x” version, the reason I posted this forum link was that I prefer to see “.x” when I am looking at a website for blender. Also, think about this. If you were to go with Blender 2021.x, that would imply that Blender’s software development had switched to 2021. Really though, Blender should not be looking a year into the future. Blender should be looking at where we are currently. In other words, do we need “.
Why not just change 2.83 to be Blender 3.0 and make it LTS Every year release the next LTS as a full version number or even a 0.5 version number ie 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 etc. Forget point releases as official and just keep the in-between versions in experimental. 3.0 drops as LTS. In experimental we get the daily builds for 3.5 Alpha until 3.5 LTS drops a year later. Just because it would be in experimental and be labeled alpha doesnt mean it has to be lower quality than current point releases. This could allow the devs to rocket forward and try a lot of new things.
Another little suggestion is if you want to consider the 3.0 version, just make the 3.0.0 and 3.0.5 (like CS6 had in version where they add everything that is added but wont update to 3.1 at least for several months.
The format I’m proposing is like CS6 Blender where its new features and patches added up until the version release but not by default, it would be like CS6 Blender had 3.0 as 3.0.0, 3.0.1, 3.0.2, 3.0.3, 3.0.4, 3.0.5 and 3.0.6 (very long name!)

The main thing that I miss is editing in the same way as Blender. I think there are many people who will never move to Blender because they need the bling, stuff that Blender has over other applications. But for people like me who do not need that and want to work the way they work, I think Blender is it’s greatest.
Blender 3.2.1 is an amazing update for Blender. I’m actually surprised it’s not in beta. It’s simply got too much to show off to wait. Blender is an amazing piece of software that i use for every aspect of my work from modelling, texturing, and effects to rendering and animation.
But I think the biggest priority for Blender is still to get python-on-GPU on all the major platforms, and perhaps on some minor ones as well. That is the biggest long term priority for Blender, because that will allow more realtime usage, and also allow for a better story building workflow.
Sorry to have missed the ending to 3.2.2 and just discovered what had happened. I was not at the demo. I don’t know about the Blender team, but I felt that there was a disjoint between some of the groups. Some of the Blender engineers seemed more concerned with developing the next feature, instead of giving priority to the Blender user interface and Blender Apps.
Fully agree! If this team had a lot of the same people who made Blender3D there would be a separate team by now that was focused on UI/UX. I have been pushing this for years, even wrote a blog on how to do it. It would be a lot of work, but with the Blender team working from the ground up with users, this problem would be solved.

I am for a side step from modeler to real artist. I mean, the real artist is the good modeler and animator. We can do real things with blender, but we need an educational program to let us and the students users to start.
