We also make it easier to locate unaddressed GitHub issues. All bugs are linked to their GitHub issue, so you can follow the progress of the fix in the case of a fix being released. However, open bugs are especially important to track since they represent a problem encountered by real customers. To improve the user experience, we focus on the C++/WinRT side of Visual Studio. Weve made performance and reliability improvements across the IDE such that your development experience is even better. Use the Preview Build of Visual Studio 2019 to see for yourself!
While weve delivered full C++ support for Windows Store apps, the C++/WinRT side of Visual Studio also integrates deeply with the tools for Windows 8.1/Windows 10. Code browsing, debugging, profiling and other tools are fully supported in both the Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 sdk s that you can use to create your Windows Store apps.
Transition to Unicode support Unicode support is now part of the Visual C++ compiler. All Visual Studio and Windows SDK headers now support Unicode. There are no runtime requirements, and no new libraries are needed.
Microsoft Visual C++ for Windows desktop has long been one of the most trusted compilers in the world. It enables you to easily develop desktop applications for the widest range of customers. This year, we continue to bring the full Windows desktop compiler to the next generation of the platform and to extend it to run on Windows Embedded Compact.
Uncrustify integration Visual Studio includes support for Uncrustify, an application-level code beautifier that can be run when you build your project to automatically clean up source code in a project. It is used for many open source projects, including some at GitHub, and is available on a commercial basis.

Ease of use is the important factor for me in any IDE. I simply don’t like having to hunt through menus, dialogs, switching between workspaces to run things. Also, I haven’t seen any updates to Visual Studio yet, which it should be doing, especially since the new features have been shipped to users. Visual Studio is supposed to be “The Ultimate Productivity Tool” – and yet I have to resort to Internet Explorer just to easily run our scripts. Yes, I know it’s more than just a script run, but it’s still an issue.
To fix the problem, I have to uninstall VS and then reinstall. It’s not enough to reset the settings or close VS and reopen it. It’s an issue that needs to be resolved asap. Also, I have to rebuild my projects every time I make changes to code (and I work on more than just my day job). Every time I make changes to any files, it has to build all projects in all solutions all over again. That’s why VS is so slow at Visual C and VS 2017. I’m afraid it’s not getting any better.
9/26/2019 – 1:16 p.m. PDT – We’ve fixed an issue with the information bar, which can cause Visual Studio to show the bar to the left of the title bar when a tab title is set. This issue was introduced with the bug fix for Issue 796496.
9/26/2019 – 1:11 p.m. PDT – This release includes a small change to the crash reporter to make it even more resilient to some potential causes of crashes. If you’re running this version and have any crashes, we’d like to hear about them! See the article on Microsoft Mechanics for more information: https://aka.ms/crash-reporter-for-visual-studio and see VS1511287 for details about the overall VSHealth fix that we’ve been working on and with this release. We believe this fixes a crash that can be caused by inconsistent byte orders in some network message data structures, which can happen when using some unusual network protocols or with some wide IP networks.

At a given moment, a large percentage of the projects developed in VS2022 still use the legacy methods of communication, often via email and meetings, to collaborate. We envision this scenario being replaced by a new paradigm where, over a short period of time, multiple tools are seamlessly integrated into Microsofts development pipeline for rapid iteration, while providing the required expertise and support.
We started to pay attention to developers to see what their C# experience would be. Extensive user feedback has lead to a consistent experience between the Visual Studio IDE and the Visual Studio for Mac IDE.

Using the following products to manage code from a tool perspective, its actually pretty easy to embrace:
- GitHub – Its the universal method of versioning most anything these days.
- Mercurial – Another version control system. This one is also pretty powerful and Im not sure if it offers git integration or not.
- SourceTree – A free and open source graphical client for git and hg. Yes, I should have just said that, but I wanted the features that SourceTree offers.
- Visual Studio Code – A cli tool by Microsoft for programming and scripting in the comfort of the terminal (OpenSSH). The IDE is well integrated, fairly easy to pick up in terms of the code snippets etc. The main issue I have with it is that the layout of the output view is retarded for monospaced (I believe this was confirmed by someone on twitter). So, I have to use a tool such as Atom or Sublime to view the code.
- Visual Studio – C# and VB editor. I use this tool primarily for building windows applications, but can be used for scripting and more.
- Visual Studio for Mac – I use this tool primarily for building iOS apps using Xcode. Definitely worth trying though, and is good for both VC++ and C#.
- Visual Studio for Windows – Same as above, with a bonus for use with Xamarin.
